Our Story
It all begins with a vision. Our story begins over 9 years ago when our founder, Maggie, was 15 years old with a vision to create opportunities through education. Born in a rural village in Hubei, China, and adopted at 18 months old, a young Maggie knew her “why” and understood the power that education held in changing people’s lives.
In 2015, she founded Thinking Huts, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the vision to ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow up and achieve their dreams.
At Thinking Huts, we leverage humanitarian-driven, innovative 3D printing technology to increase global access to education by reducing the overall construction time of schools and creating local jobs to empower thriving communities.

What We Are Solving
Out of the 250 million young people worldwide who do not have access to education, more than half live in sub-Saharan Africa.
Our vision is global with a current focus in East Africa, specifically Madagascar, where 45% of kids are not enrolled in school.
The children and communities we serve walk miles and miles to reach the nearest, often overcrowded, school and there is rarely existing infrastructure.
Leveraging 3D printing, we can build schools quickly, reduce construction waste with the precision of the technology, and lower costs once scaled.

Why 3D Printing?
Our schools seek to blend with local culture by involving a hybrid design of 3D printed walls and locally sourced materials, such as carved rosewood doors by Madagascan artisans. Inspired by the beehive, our current Honeycomb Campus of multiple connecting Huts symbolizes the heart of our mission: bringing together a community that thrives if everyone works towards a shared vision.
Traditional construction methods can take months or even years. 3D printing decreases construction time from months to weeks and reduces construction waste, cutting costs in half as we achieve economies of scale. The more we print, the less expensive replication becomes as we continue to perfect our supply chain.
Each of our schools provides a wealth of employment opportunities – from the local construction teams who build them to the teachers who bring them to life. Our trusted partners on the ground oversee the day-to-day operations of the schools and ensure that teachers are supplied.
