Our August Update

Hello Thinking Huts family!

We have successfully completed the soil test and are now working remotely with our architects, structural engineers, 14Trees technicians, and the Madagascar team to coordinate laying the foundation in October. Our architects are modifying and value engineering our original Hut design. We are continuing our funding efforts towards raising the remaining 160k which will support the transportation and rental of the printer to Madagascar, 14Trees technicians, concrete mixture for the walls, local construction workers, and materials.

We look forward to unveiling the final design and are optimistic as we plan to start building our first 3D printed school in mid-November upon the EMIT university campus. We may be unable to build and arrive in person due to Madagascar's travel borders being closed, but we have complete confidence in our local partners and team to deliver the project if there are no extenuating circumstances. Our technology partner 14Trees will also need to transport the printer and their 3D technicians from Malawi to Madagascar. We hope to see our school in person next year. If travel borders do not allow, we will need to build our school after the rainy season ends in March/April.

Pictured are our Madagascar team, Antonyo, Ella, and Hery, who are helping with on-the-ground operations and documenting everything.

We are hoping our school, Hut v1.0, will be open by the new year. The first is always the toughest to complete but we are excited to scale once the world sees the first of many 3D printed schools as the beginning of our global mission to increase access to education. We have plans to continue our dedication to supporting local job creation and hope to create 3D technician training programs as we grow our local Thinking Huts team. Once we are able to scale to build in more rural locations, we look forward to finding ways to connect our Huts to the internet as central hubs for students and their communities.

Thank you for your continued support of our vision. Until the next update!
